Listening to Todd Snider's Greencastle Blues, I was suddenly struck with a memory from 2004. There was a silver, four-door, Lincoln Continental blocking the entry to a red-brick, two-bay garage, which was cleverly added onto to the back side of an old, downtown building in Pendleton, Oregon. The garage had been reclaimed for business storage or some other nonsense many years before, leaving all sorts of dreams and compromises laid bare in that rear parking lot.
It's like time stands still forever. Until exactly 22 years later, it starts shaking around on you, shaking around like… How do you know when it's too late to learn? Thanks for the songs, Todd. The vulnerability and sensitivity you shared through your art is appreciated.
